CULTIVATING SUCCESS WITH SMART IRRIGATION MAINTENANCE

What you need to know to keep your irrigation system working at its best

Like many communities today, Denver is grappling with drastic changes in weather. While Colorado has always been prone to frequent shifts in weather - snow one day, sunshine and bluebird skies the next - the severity of weather has increased. Flooding, intense heat, and wildfire smoke are just a few of the issues that have recently impacted downtowns across the state. Water conservation and maintaining a vibrant downtown environment are top priorities for Denver's business improvement districts (BIDs).

Part of what makes downtowns so enjoyable and welcoming are the trees and landscaping. To manage several city blocks, many BIDs rely on irrigation systems. Every spring or fall, CSG conducts seasonal irrigation system activations, installations, broken pipe and sprinkler head repairs, fix leaky backflows, and program system timers. CSG conducts a systems check to ensure that all lines, outlets, and nozzles are clear and working correctly so that water is getting to the areas that need it.

As a licensed and insured commercial cleaning and maintenance social enterprise specialized in working with BIDs, transit centers and other downtown districts, CSG  plays a crucial role in public realm operations.

Sustainable Solutions

Modern irrigation systems are sophisticated tools designed to optimize water usage and plant health. One way is the use of smart technology that can automatically adjust water usage based on real-time conditions, resulting in less water waste and is healthier for the trees and landscaping downtown. CSG manages irrigation system controller setup, replacement, and installations. The team sources replacement parts and tools from CSG’s in-house inventory, identifies and coordinates with additional vendors as needed, and completes the repairs with a seamless process. CSG maintains a customized inventory and storage system for each client, which decreases any repair downtime and helps to keep track of tools and parts.

CSG Maintenance Team technicians oversee the process and are on hand to resolve any technology glitches. Teams hand water trees and planters when necessary to monitor water usage and energy consumption while repairs are in progress. This preserves your beautiful space with healthy trees and gardens.

For example, CSG technicians supervise the 16th Street EarthPlanters, self-watering planters that can be found throughout the pedestrian mall. This has saved the Downtown Denver BID (DDBID) resources and reduced water waste, particularly during construction. The reconstruction of 16th Street is nearing completion, though the project spans the past two years where CSG worked alongside PCL Construction and the DDBID to maintain accessibility during construction. Each construction block has a rain sensor and high-moisture meters that divert water to an area that has less moisture. It's a remote management system with real-time updates viewable from your phone.

The Digital Evolution

It takes a village to run a city on a daily basis and CSG harnesses technology to help keep it clean and accessible to everyone. From weather monitoring to automatic timers, rain sensors, notifications/alerts, and intuitive apps, you can monitor irrigation system performance and implement solutions faster with smart technology.

Colorado’s drought conditions often result in water restrictions which are regulations that businesses, residents and public spaces are required to observe. CSG waters during cooler times of the day and can quickly pivot the watering frequency to follow requirements as confirmed with the client.

Seasoned Professionals

Understanding the age and condition of your irrigation system is the first step to proper care, extending the life of your system.
